About the Artist:
Pietro Lazzari (1895–1979) was an Italian-born painter, sculptor, printmaker, and illustrator associated with the Italian Futurist movement before immigrating to New York in 1925. He exhibited alongside leading European modernists, participated in the landmark Abstract Art in America exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and was represented by the influential Betty Parsons Gallery. A Fulbright Fellow and longtime educator, Lazzari taught at The American University, the Corcoran School of Art, and Gallaudet College. His work is held in major public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Museums of Fine Art.
