An expressive watercolor depicting a mare and foal by Pietro Lazzari, rendered with the fluid, gestural brushwork characteristic of the artist's mature work. Likely executed circa 1960, the composition exemplifies Lazzari's ability to suggest form and movement through economical, energetic mark-making.

About the Artist:
Pietro Lazzari (1895–1979) was an Italian-born painter, sculptor, printmaker, and illustrator associated with the Italian Futurist movement before immigrating to New York in 1925.
