A richly textured abstract composition alive with layered color and movement, reflecting Schwan’s expressive approach and confident handling of form.

About the Artist: Marcia Solomon Schwan (1930–2022) was an artist who resided in Tidewater, Virginia for nearly 70 years. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she graduated from The Park School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Goucher College in 1951. Art was a defining element in Schwan’s life — a passion that began in childhood, when she won first prize in a competition hosted by The Walters Art Museum, and continued throughout her life. While painting daily in her home studio, she audited art classes at Old Dominion University taught by artists Charles Sibley and Norman Goodwin, who became both mentors and friends. Schwan developed cherished friendships with numerous fellow artists locally, and her work was exhibited alongside theirs in museum and gallery settings.
