Artist Bio:
Carlos Catasse (1944–2010) was born in Santiago, Chile as Carlos Tapia Sepúlveda, later crafting his artistic name by combining the first two letters of his first, middle, and last names. Initially self-taught before studying at the School of Applied Arts in Santiago, he developed a vivid, rhythm-driven style distinguished by bold color and expressive form. Drawn to the landscape and culture of Ecuador, Catasse relocated to Quito in 1969, where he lived and worked for the remainder of his life. Known affectionately as The Palette for his mastery of color, he gained wide recognition for his celebrated windmill series and exhibited internationally, receiving numerous Latin American art awards throughout his career.
