Artist Bio:
Aina Nergaard (b. 1919) was born in Spain to a family with a long tradition of women artists. She and her American husband moved to Washington, D.C. in 1957, where they lived until relocating to Lewes, Delaware in 1997. A highly recognized and prolific artist before her retirement, Nergaard sought vibrant, balanced compositions in which form and color remained in harmony. She relied heavily on intuition to capture the feeling of the scene she aimed to depict, repeatedly studying each work to ensure clarity, balance, and impact in her ongoing effort to “avoid chaos.” The paintings of hers at Consignment House reflect the strength and success of this disciplined approach.
