Aina Nergaard-Nammack, “Manuel de Falla, Suite Popular Española, Polo” #1552
Acrylic on canvas
Signed and numbered by artist
31 x 31 inches

A vibrant abstract composition from Aina Nergaard-Nammack’s Fragments of Classical Music series, inspired by Manuel de Falla’s Suite Popular Española, Polo. Broad passages of saturated blue, lavender, coral, black, and silver-gray move across the canvas in sweeping rhythmic forms, reflecting Nergaard-Nammack’s intuitive approach to color, balance, and movement. Rather than illustrating a literal scene, the composition translates musical feeling into abstraction through layered color and energetic gesture.

About the Artist:
Aina Nergaard-Nammack (1930–2026) was a Spanish-born abstract painter known for her vibrant, intuitive compositions and lifelong dedication to color, balance, and movement. Born into a family with a long artistic tradition among the women, she moved to the United States with her husband in the late 1950s and later lived and worked in Alexandria, Virginia before settling in Lewes, Delaware. A highly prolific artist throughout her long career, Aina created bold abstract works in which form and color remain carefully in equilibrium. Relying heavily on intuition, she sought to capture the emotional feeling of a scene rather than strict realism, repeatedly refining her compositions in an effort to “avoid chaos” and achieve the simple yet strong visual impact that defines her work.
