Artist Bio:
Marcia Solomon Schwan (1930–2022) lived in Tidewater, Virginia for nearly 70 years. Born in Baltimore, she developed an early and enduring passion for art, winning first prize in a competition hosted by The Walters Art Museum as a child. She maintained a daily painting practice throughout her life and audited art classes at Old Dominion University with artists Charles Sibley and Norman Goodwin, who became mentors and close friends. Schwan was deeply connected to the regional arts community, exhibiting her work widely in museum and gallery settings alongside fellow Virginia artists.
