About the Artist: Marcia Solomon Schwan (1930–2022) lived in Tidewater, Virginia for nearly 70 years. Born in Baltimore, she developed an early passion for art, winning first prize in a competition hosted by The Walters Art Museum. She maintained a daily studio practice throughout her life and audited art classes at Old Dominion University with artists Charles Sibley and Norman Goodwin, who became mentors and close friends. Deeply connected to the regional arts community, Schwan exhibited her work widely alongside fellow Virginia artists.
