Artist Bio:
Aina Nergaard (b. 1919) was born in Spain to a family with a long tradition of women artists. She and her American husband moved to Washington, D.C. in 1957, where they lived until relocating to Lewes, Delaware in 1997. A highly recognized and prolific artist before her retirement, Nergaard sought vibrant, balanced compositions in which form and color remained in harmony. She relied heavily on intuition to convey the feeling of each scene, repeatedly studying her compositions to ensure clarity, balance, and strong visual impact in her ongoing effort to “avoid chaos.” The paintings of hers at Consignment House clearly reflect the success of this disciplined approach.
