Artist Bio:
Ernest Fredericks (American, 1877–1959), born Frederick Ernest Swedlun in McPherson, Kansas, moved to Chicago to study at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He adopted the name “Ernest Fredericks” to avoid prejudice against Swedish immigrants. Fredericks exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, participated in the All-Illinois Art Shows, and was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists.
