Howard Finster (1916–2001) was an American folk artist and Baptist minister from Georgia. He claimed to be inspired by God to spread the gospel through the transformation of his swampy land into Paradise Garden, a visionary sculpture environment containing more than 46,000 works of art. Finster’s creations span outsider, native, and visionary art traditions, and his works are held in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution and museums around the world.
